Nick Dougherty European Tour Professional helps CHORF As reported in the Daily Post on Tuesday the 31st of July:-
"While many top golfers will have been making their preparations, perhaps fine tuning their game in readiness for this year's Open, Liverpool's Nick Dougherty found the time to support a charity event at Wallasey. Nick's father Roger had previously played in he CHORF - Christopher Hardman Osteosarcoma Research Fund - golf day at the famous links, an event in memory of 15 years-old Christopher Hardman who had died in 2004. In advance of this year's event, Nick sent a golf driver for auction on the charity day saying that if it made more than £500.00, he would come and play a 4-ball with the highest bidders.
The auction of the driver made £2,600.00 for CHORF - which is how Nick arrived to play in torrential rain and incidentally, make a lot of friends at Wallasey. Christopher's father, Chairman of the Trustees of CHORF and a member at Wallasey joined in the bid for the driver and played in the 4-ball with cousin Bryan Hardman from Northampton and Peter Cain, also a member at Wallasey said: "Nick was absolutely fantastic, brilliant. He was true to his word, found the time and did indeed break from his preparations from the Open to come here. He chatted all the way round about golf and other things and was just so helpful making time for photographers and to chat to everyone. Yes, he gage us a couple of tips on chipping for example. It poured all the way round but it did not make any difference. He just got on with it and still went round under par."
